The first meeting of the year! In January, we were snowed out.
I’ve been part of this group of ladies – men are invited, too! – who meet once a month and make quilts to be given to clients of Mary’s Center in Washington, DC. Several times a year they host a baby shower for their clients and among other gifts, the women get to choose a quilt for their new baby.
This is where I quilted my first quilt, and learned about simple piecing and pillow-casing baby quilts. I don’t have the current count, but we reached over 1,000 quilts some time ago.
Here is a stack of 55 quilts. (No, we didn’t do all of these in one day!) The one I worked on yesterday is on top of the middle stack in the front. Someone else had pieced the quilt and begun quilting it. I added some more quilting using a decorative stitch and the walking foot to add some crisscross quilting.
It was good to get back together with those that regularly quilt with us and meet several new ladies. We enjoy working together and helping each other. It may be learning a new technique or a tip or a new tool, or just seeing some quilt that someone has made. We love doing show and tell!
