April 2014 Summary

I’m sitting here writing this Blog post and wondering just where did the month of April go!  It’s hard to believe that it is already May!!

Quilting for Good – This past month started with some travel so I missed Q4G, but am looking forward to seeing everyone on May 2nd.

Fabric Café – I’ve gotten some more tops to make, and have two of them finished.  They are heading their way to Donna and then to the Long Arm Quilter.

Pinwheel –                               Puzzle Me This –

Fat Quarter Shop – Wishes Quilt Along

I have finished March’s Block – Annie’s Choice

and I have April’s Block – Broken Dishes – cut & ready to stitch.

Quilter’s Newsletter’s BOM – Ooh-Rah!!

I have to admit I’m behind.  The March block, Silent Majority, has me on hold – it has 20 Y-Seams, also known as Set-in Seams.  I know. I just posted a video on Demystifying Y-Seams, but they still frustrate me.

I have the April Block, The Calico Puzzle, cut and ready to stitch.  I may get this one done before the March block.

Thursday Hand Quilting Group – When I started quilting in 2007, I got the 2nd Saturday BOM kits from Little Quilts in Marietta, GA.  I started hand-piecing these, and then other projects interrupted.  So I’ve picked up these again and am working on them on Thursdays.

Travels – I started the month with travel to SW Virginia to attend a Quilt Retreat sponsored by my friend, Camelia Elliott of Camelia’s Unique Creations. Fourteen ladies spent 4 days/3 nights stitching on projects, sharing their quilting experiences and enjoying making new friends.

The setting was a beautiful conference center in the Blue Ridge mountains.  After a snow storm the week before, it was beautiful weather showing signs of spring.

One quilter was making a patriotic quilt and demonstrated a Split 9-Patch Star block.  She shared some of her cut fabric with me so I could make a couple to help me remember how to do it.

Some other projects worked on and/or completed include Easter Bunny Treat Pouches, Sock Monkey Travel Pillowcase, and Placemats.  The placemats are waiting quilting and binding

I’ve made some blocks for the Quilts of Valor Block Drive by Kevin the Quilter and I plan to get some more made in May.  If you want, there is still time to make some before the June 1st Deadline.

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 9 – release dated 5/6

The month has ended with the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 9 Blog Tour – April 28 – May 2.  Check out my other blog posts where I get to finally share the 15 blocks that I tested October – February and had to keep them under cover!  I’ve had them hanging around the house so I could enjoy them.  Here are 10 of the blocks I tested.

It seems like you achieved a lot! But I do have the same feeling about April. Let’s hope May will go slower 🙂

Hope May takes it’s time. I love this time of year. And, my To-Do List is growing! Not sure how I can get more than 24 hours in a day. Thanks for stopping by.

This month it did help that I went to a 4 day Quilt Retreat. It is surprising how much you can get done when you only have to eat/sleep/sew – No cooking, no housework, no phone interruptions. Thanks for following my blog!

  5. Those bunny treat pouches are adorable! Was there a pattern or did you create those on your own?
