The Week That Was–5/31/2015

Is it Sunday already?!? Last Monday was a holiday in the US, and in my mind the days have been off all week.  On top of that – Tomorrow is the first day of June!  Where has Spring gone?

The gas company has been updating their pipeline and the final stage is repaving the street since it has been mostly dug up during their work.  So this week, without any notice, our neighborhood roads have been torn up and Friday they began spreading the new asphalt.

My car could not be parked in front of the house on Friday and there was limited space on other neighborhood roads to park. So I was forced into making a day of shopping!

So, here is my weekly Summary:

  • Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 12 – Finished & Evaluated Block #3 and got Block #4 to make.

This one is mostly pieced with a  bit of paper (or foundation) piecing.  Currently picking colors – only need 4.

  •  Family & Friends – Got the travel pillowcases in the mail and spent more time in my Excel worksheet making some pattern modifications for two quilts I’m making.

Did some strip piecing, cutting and piecing together the rows on two quilts.  Do you ever work on two quilts at the same time?  These both have strip piecing, so they worked together very nicely. Rows are done, and will be adding the borders this week.

Hand stitching with friends on Thursday.  It doesn’t get done very fast, but is relaxing and visiting with friends is always fun!

  • In the Mail

My ‘Over The Phone’ shopping purchases arrived this week.  I’m so excited!

Backing & Pillowcase Fabric

TMNT

Batman Focus Fabric for the two quilts for Twin Grand Nephews.  (See this week’s shopping for the accent fabrics chosen.)

Not a quilting purchase, but I ordered some products from True Lemon – I love their True Lemon packs to add real lemon to my water.  I also got some of their single-serve beverage packs.  [Not a paid endorsement. I just like their products!]

  • Shopping – During my forced day of shopping I did get a number of things.  And, on top of that, I walked over 10,000 steps!

Dutch Market is only open Thursdays – Saturdays.  I found this Spiced Chai Tea mix in Floyd, VA, and was tickled to see that our local Dutch Market also had some.  I’m Addicted to it!!  And to go with the Chai Tea, Ginger Cookies and Candied Pineapple.

Joann Fabrics & Crafts – Always can use some White-on-White Fabric, and it was 30% off!

Big Lots, Target & BJ’s – You know there are always things you need: Toothpaste, Shaving Cream, Food!

Hobby Lobby – I’ve never been to this store before, but have seen on Facebook that they have fabric. Honestly I didn’t even know it was there.

Found Travel Pillow forms (I use a lot of those!), and picked up some Dots, orange & Kona black fabric.

Prints Charming Quilt Shop – This is a fairly new quilt shop.  I think they have been open about a year and a half.  Staff/Owner are friendly, lighting is great, and a nice selection of fabrics – patriotic, novelty, blenders, batiks & more.

I had several fabrics I wanted to match and went through the store picking colors.  There was a sale which started the next day, so we mostly chose. My DH and I returned the following morning to buy – and buy!  Whenever I go fabric shopping with DH, I end up buying more than I would if I were alone!

Bought some Backing Fabric for 3 quilts which finished the bolt.  Any leftovers will probably be made into ConKerr Cancer Pillowcases.

Accent Fabric for two quilts (remember Batman?) – Yup, finished a couple of more bolts! Left-overs will be used for pillowcases or other projects.

Well, I’d say I had a busy week!  I now have all the fabric I need, including backing, to finish 5 quilts.  My goal this week is to at least get all the tops completed and maybe even the backings pieced.  I may have one more forced day of shopping on Monday as the road paving stopped at our driveway, and I’m guessing that’s where they will start at 7 AM tomorrow!

Hope you have a great week –

Happy Stitching!
