Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 13–Blog Tour, Day 1

One of the fun quilting things I do, along with 34 others, is to test patterns/instructions for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks special issue.  Twice a year, Quiltmaker publishes a special issue with 100 Blocks from top designers. You will be sure to find something to tickle your fancy – appliqué, foundation piecing, as well as regularly pieced blocks.,

Beginning today, at Quilty Pleasures Blog, you are invited to participate in the Blog Tour to celebrate the release of Volume 13, which will be available on May 3rd, online (digital & in print) as well as many quilt shops and newsstands. You will get to know many of the designers, and you can win prizes from some wonderful sponsors – like a Kona Fat Quarter bundle by Robert Kaufman Fabrics.  Go to their blog each day to enter for that day’s prices

I enjoy testing the blocks, the only problem is that I cannot share them until the magazine is released!  So I’m joining in with the Blog Tour this week with posts highlighting the blocks I’ve tested.

On the first day of Quiltmaker’s Blog Tour, they Previewed four blocks and I tested one of them.

  • Vixen, an appliquéd block designed by QM’s associate editor, Erin Russek.
  • Polar Star, a foundation-pieced block designed by Karen Ackva, using Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
  • Lovely, a pieced block designed by Corey Yoder, using her Prairie line for Moda Fabrics and Essex Linen from Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
  • Picket Posies, a pieced block designed by Greg Jones.  This was one of the blocks I tested. Here is my version of his block.

My Tested Blocks

I tested one block from todays featured designers.

Carol Steely – Block #1212 – Spring Bloomers (Appliqué )

She is so excited that her block made the cover, too!! Read her post for a couple of tips that will make this easier. I wish I had thought of that when I was testing! Also, you can win a copy of Volume 13 if you visit her blog and enter.

Spring Bloomers – Designed & Appliqued by Carol Steely

Here is the one I made.  I guess I should have picked a lighter color for the leaves. But it a cute block.  Bet you can tell I need to work on my color choices.  Oh, well, I did have fun making it anyway.

Well, that’s it for Day #1 of the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 13 Blog Tour. Join me tomorrow to see more blocks.
