September Mary-thon Update

This is the 2nd year I have been participating in the Project Linus sponsored Mary-thon.  A marathon is 26 miles but the Mary-thon is 26 weeks.  A Half Mary-thon requires 30 minutes of activity for 3 days per week during the 26 weeks while a Full Mary-thon requires 30 minutes of activity for 5 days per week during the 26 weeks. This is repeated during the 2nd half of the year for 22 weeks which is an Ultra Mary-thon.

Finishing is Winning

I can’t say it’s always been easy, but I have managed to keep up.  My 30 minutes of activity includes things like 30 minutes of Physical Therapy for my knees, 15-20 minutes on an Elliptical Bicycle, 20-30 minutes on the Treadmill, walking the neighborhood pushing a neighbor child in his stroller or walking Costco or BJ’s Warehouse club (did you know, according to my pedometer you can walk over a mile in Costco!).

During the Mary-thon, we are challenged to include something special, like walking 2,600 steps or 1 mile of activity for 26 out of 30 days.  This keeps it interesting and helps boost over the long-haul.

2018 Fall Challenge

The Fall Challenge will begin September 22nd – 2,600 steps or 1 mile of some activity like walking/biking/swimming, etc. for 26 days concluding 10/21. This will be an especially difficult challenge for me due to a medical issue, but I signed up and will do my best!

Did I mention that a portion of all registration fees goes to support the program of Project Linus?  If you have a local chapter, you can designate them to receive your donation.  I’m always surprised that when I mention Project Linus, most people are unfamiliar with it.  Have you heard about it?  If not, please check out their mission at Project Linus website.

Here are some of my stats for 2018.

  • 01/10/2018 – 07/01/2018: 26 weeks Finisher – Half Mary-thon
    • 7 weeks of 3 or 4 days with 30+ minutes of activity
    • 19 weeks of 5-7 days with 30+ minutes of activity
  • Challenges
    • 02/26 – 03/23/2018 First Challenge
      • 63 miles (mostly elliptical bike)
      • 99,784 steps in 26 days (average 3,838 steps/day)
    • 05/21-06/21/2018 Second Challenge
      • 71 miles (mostly elliptical bike)
      • 103,608 steps in 26 out of 28 days (average 3,985 steps/day)
  • 07/02-09/02/2018 (8 out of 9 weeks so far of 2nd Half Mary-thon/Ultra Mary-thon)
    • 1 week –  4 days with 30+ minutes of activity
    • 7 weeks of 5-7 days with 30+ minutes of activity
  • Totals for this year/35 weeks  (includes PT, Exercise Bike, Treadmill & Walking)
    • Steps – 928,792
    • Miles – 398
    • Minutes – 8,424
  • Bonus – in the past 18 months I’ve lost 20 lbs!  I’m plateaued, but hope to get back to losing soon.

Not much stitching going on this week, but a bit of sewing room cleaning has been accomplished. How about you?
