September Finishes & Other October Goals

Can you believe it, I actually got some small projects completed in September. Nothing major, but happy to have had some sewing time.  Some of my time was spent cleaning and just looking for fabric.

** I want to make some Luggage Tags, so I experimented with two patterns I found on the Internet. The first one wasn’t bad, and features a hidden pocket for your id and included a buttonhole. You can get the free pattern on Ms Elaineous Teaches Sewing Blog.

** I played with the second pattern, but wasn’t happy with it.  There were some features I liked, so I reworked it a bit and was pleased with the result.  I plan on making more of this tag, and hope to write up a Tutorial to post.

Luggage Tag

** My companion for the past 2 weeks and some of this month is a walker. I could (and did) add a return address sticker to avoid getting it confused with walkers that belong to others.  But I wanted something useful.  So, in addition to one of the luggage tags, I made a matching Diddy Bag & Small Tissue Holder.

The Diddy Bag Pattern was found here, but I made some modifications.  I love pockets to organize things in any tote bag.  First I added an interior pocket the size of a credit card or business card to hold my id.  Second, I added an interior pocket, similar to the front exterior pocket, but I divided it into 3 – one for a pen, and the other two for a small notebook and the tissues, plus I added a clip to hold a Key or something.  Finally, I added a pony tail band & button to create a closure.

** Finally, I posted here about the 4 shelter pet beds that I made for Capital Quilts. You can read about their latest donations here on their Facebook Page.

Most of my October Goals are Physical Therapy related. Exercising my new knee will take up a lot of my time, but I do hope to have some sewing time. Along with my OMG I shared here, I hope to work on a few other projects.

** Work on Luggage Tag Tutorial while making several.

** Stitch up 3 more Shelter Pet Beds

** Kit up cut fabric for placemats

Well, I’d better get my knee moving.  Hope you are getting some stitching time this weekend.

Happy Stitching & Moving!

  1. Those are all fun little projects. Manageable while your are recuperating! It is really amazing how great the joint replacement surgeries are now. My mom had one knee done in the early 1980’s and the other done about 7 years ago. Two VERY different experiences. I hope you are recuperating quickly. I remember it was all about the exercises when she was going through it. Hang in there!

  2. That looks like a better luggage tag. My little quilt guild used to make walker bags for the veterans. They were pretty simple, and held a magazine or book, and a place to put a water bottle, etc (pockets on both sides, and held together with velcro.
