Like I mentioned in my post last Thursday, I’m addicted to QAL’s (Quilt Alongs), especially if it is a Mystery. Mystery QALs will often challenge me to use different techniques. Last Fall I joined a group making a Mystery for Quilts of Valor (QOV). The top is at the Longarm Quilters. You can read about it Here.
I must admit, I have another QOV Mystery as a UFO. The star was a challenge for me and I got frustrated with the small, irregular pieces. It was begun in 2012. I have pulled it out and am working on it slowly.
But a new Mystery begins soon. Alycia is a quilt designer who supports Quilts of Valor (QOV) and hosts a Mystery QAL a few times each year. Her quilt patterns are known for being beautiful, easy and fun. Quilters of all levels of expertise enjoy her patterns. She designs her quilts to fit the size requirements for quilts to be presented to service members and veterans. This Mystery Quilt size is expected to be 65″ x 81″, a nice size throw. Alycia posted the fabric requirements on her Blog this past Wednesday. It requires 4 colors – three and a background. I’m hoping I’ll be able to use some more of my stash. The stitching begins March 3rd, and Alycia suggests that it won’t require more than 2 hours of stitching each week. The top you make doesn’t have to be patriotic and you are not required to donate it to Quilts of Valor, but if not donating it, making a 2nd one to donate would be nice.
Many of our friends & family in Texas & Louisiana are experiencing unprecedented cold & snow with power outages. Thoughts & prayers to those experiencing this unusual weather and it’s after effects.
