Fall is approaching, even though the temperatures are still high. Maybe I can get back into sewing before the hustle & bustle of the fall holidays start taking my time. In addition to APQ’s UFO Challenge and Elm Street Quilt’s OMG, I’m planning on working on several UFOs and maybe get back to my Current Projects from earlier in the year.
(OK, for those not in the quilting world – UFO stands for UnFinished Object, and OMG means One Monthly Goal.)
American Patchwork & Quilting’s UFO Challenge. Participants created a list of 12 (or more) unfinished projects that we hoped to work on or complete this year. The first of the month a random number is announced and that is the project to work on.
My September UFO – Fat Eighth Frenzy & Pot Holders
The UFO number for September is #1. I have two relatively “simple” UFOs on my list for this month. One is to add borders to my Fat Eighth Frenzy Quilt and I don’t know how many that will be, but am thinking maybe two. The second is to finish up several pot holders I cut out & assembled a year or two ago, but never stitched together & quilted.
Quite a few years ago, I tested block patterns for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Semi Annual magazine. Although this was not a paid position, we did receive some thank you gifts for our participation. I don’t remember which year it was, but one time I received a Fat Eighths Bundle. Scanning the Internet I found this free pattern on Fat Quarter Shop’s website. I pieced it at a Quilt Retreat 2-3 years ago, but it’s been in a box since. As is, it is finished at 48″ x 56″ but I feel it needs a border or two to finish it. I’m thinking a small black inner border followed by a brown or fall themed pattern?
I am hoping this UFO will add to the pile of tops w/backing heading to my friend to quilt on her longarm!
My September OMG – FQS 2014 Wishes Mystery QAL
This month, I have chosen to work on another UFO as my One Monthly Goal sponsored by Elm Street Quilts Blog. My goal for September is to piece the backing for this FQS 2014 Wishes Mystery QAL.
This is slightly different than the usual pieced backing as it uses some of the fabric used on the front creating a 4-patch strip that goes through the middle. As a bonus, I hope to get the last border added to the top.
The end is near! If I get both the border & backing done, it, too, can be added to the pile of quilts to be quilted. I know this project may sound familiar to those who follow my blog regularly. It is a (or an?) UFO that I’ve been working on all this year. I AM determined to get this one DONE!!

My September Goals – As if I don’t have enough to do
These have had to roll over from my August list. I have so many things partially done, I’m trying to make a list to help me keep on track.
- Make tops for Fabric Cafe, if needed.
- Commissioned Quilt – Sandwich & Quilt
- My Hometown – Blocks 4, 5, Corner Blocks
- Hand piece Inner Border for HPQAL-Harmony
- Trim & Add Label & Binding for Autumn Jubilee
- 9 Patch Rows – Get another row done
- Backings needed (either to cut/piece or buy)
Oh, by the way, did I mention I’ve have 4 Quilt Alongs that I want to do this fall? Two are wall hangings/table toppers, one is a quilt and I have yet to hear what the 4th one will be. I’ll have to write a whole post about them. LOL
Happy Stitching
Quilt Mouse
Looks like you have some good plans! Autumn Jubilee is coming in October, so save a bit of time and get ready to clean out your scrap bins!
