It is so fun. I get a text or email from Donna asking if I can make a top for her. She tells me that it’s a new pattern and a bit different from her other patterns. I say send it to me and a few days later I get a box of fabric.
She sends me the pattern and image of what the quilt will look like. I read the pattern and make cutting notes. When I get the fabric, I’m ready to get started. My first step is to iron the fabric and label it as Fabric #1, #2 or #3.
I print out separate cutting notes for each of the three fabrics. OK, I’ll admit it. I need large print. It helps to keep my eyes focused on what needs to be cut. Some patterns I also use sticky notes to identify individual pieces as outlined in the pattern’s instructions.
Introducing “Freedom,” a new individual pattern just introduced last week. It was a fun top to make. I always take a picture of my completed top before I return it to Donna at Fabric Cafe. She then matches it with a backing and sends it off to her longarm quilter friend (who does a marvelous job!). The fabric bundle is called Betsy’s Garden. Although the fabric has not yet arrived, you can request to be emailed when it arrives.
Check out the YouTube video and at about 3:34 you can see the quilt top I made of the Freedom Pattern.
I made the top for the first quilt in the video last October. The fabric is no longer available, but Donna & John show some other fabric (Fireworks) that would look beautiful using this pattern. The pattern is Oh! My Stars and is in the book – Quilts in a Jiffy.
Further on in the video, you can see another top I made in August 2019. The pattern’s name is Suite Times and is available in the Easy Peasy Book as well as an individual pattern. It is a wonderful pattern to highlight a large print fabric.
Donna suggests using the Long May It Wave fabric bundle and the Suite Times pattern to make an easy & quick quilt.
The last pattern they show is Bold Blocks – Available in the Pretty Darn Quick Book and as an Individual Pattern – Donna & John suggest patriotic fabric – Arts of Valor Fabric Bundle. This pattern is another one that highlights a large print fabric. This is the top I made in January 2019 using this pattern.
I’m so happy to be able to show some of the quilt tops I’ve made in the past as well as the ‘secret’ work I’ve been doing this year. So far, I’ve made 22 tops for Fabric Cafe just since January this year. Hope you’ve seen something your like.
Hope you are getting some Stitching done this week.
More cute quilt tops. I really like the top one with the stars and stripes.
