It’s hard to believe that Fall is here. Nights are getting cooler and daytime temperatures are no longer in the 90’s. This time of year you need to dress in layers as it might be chilly in the morning, but shorts & short-sleeves are required during the daytime. Speaking of daytime, we are approaching shorter and shorter days with later sunrises and earlier sunsets. This month has many things requiring my attention other than sewing, but I will get in as much as I can. In addition to APQ’s UFO Challenge and Elm Street Quilt’s OMG, I’m planning on trying to keep up with my Fall 2021 Current Projects.
(OK, for those not in the quilting world – UFO stands for UnFinished Object, and OMG means One Monthly Goal.)
American Patchwork & Quilting’s UFO Challenge. Participants created a list of 12 (or more) unfinished projects that we hoped to work on or complete this year. The first of the month a random number is announced and that is the project to work on.
My October UFO – Work on 2016 Autumn Jubilee Project
The UFO number for October is #8. Funny coincidence. My #8 is actually to finished my 2016 Autumn Jubilee. The top is finished and it is sandwiched and ready to quilt. I have too many other projects with deadlines, so unfortunately this will probably move onto next year’s UFO list.
It was started in 2016, but was put on hold because I needed to buy some border fabric. Then the borders were added in 2019 and then had to wait for backing fabric. Finally, backing/batting/top were sandwiched and waited to be quilted. I have such problems with “Quilt as Desired” and I never know what I desire.
My October OMG – Get Grandson’s quilt top made
It’s ok. He’s only 16 months old and don’t think he reads my Blog! LOL. The end of the year is speeding toward us, so I have to get this done and to the longarm quilter this month. Therefore, I have chosen it as my One Monthly Goal sponsored by Elm Street Quilts Blog. My goal for October is to piece the quilt top and get backing and get it to my friend to quilt it.
I discovered this bright and cute 3-yard bundle I had purchased a while ago from Fabric Cafe. I didn’t have a specific reason to make it, so it’s been on my shelf for a while. I’m thinking it will make a cheery quilt for Grandson #2. I decided to use one of the new patterns I just tested – City Lights. It should highlight the fun dinosaurs.
I have the initial cutting done. I just need some time to sit at the machine and stitch. It WILL happen this week or next. If I get an uninterrupted day, I can piece it in one day.
I will have to “force” myself to check out some quilt shops to find backing to go with it. Any suggestions on what the backing should be?
My October Goals – As if I don’t have enough to do
I have so many things partially done, I’m trying to make a list to help me keep on track. Some have rolled over from September and even earlier.
- In Progress – Commissioned Quilt – Sandwiched & Quilting in Progress
- In Progress – Hand Piece Quilt Along 2021 – Working on Borders, will need to find fabric for 2nd border
- In Progress – Fall 2021 Current Projects – Snowmen & Silent Night, All the Trimmings, Project Linus 2021/Oliver in the Dog House and Autumn Jubilee 2021. Weekly assignments.
- Make tops for Fabric Cafe, if needed.
- My Hometown – Blocks 4, 5, Corner Blocks
- Trim & Add Label & Binding for Autumn Jubilee 2020 Queen Quilt
- 9 Patch Rows – Get another row done
- Backings needed (either to cut/piece or buy)
So this is what I want to do during October. Fingers crossed a lot will get done.
