February 2022 – Goals, UFOs & OMG

Groundhog Day 2022. According to Punxsutawney Phil, we are looking at six more weeks of winter. But I’ve always wondered how a groundhog in Pennsylvania can predict the weather where I live. We do have a “local” rodent celebrity, Potomac Phil (a stuffed relative of the one in Pennsylvania) and he doesn’t always agree with Phil. The local forecast is for temps in the 50’s today, so I’ll take that for now. Then cold & wet is expected to return for the weekend.

I am participating in the APQ’s UFO Challenge and Elm Street Quilt’s OMG. Hopefully I will also work some to finish up my Fall 2021 Current Projects (which are now my 2022 WIPs).

(Quilting Acronyms – UFO stands for UnFinished Object, OMG means One Monthly Goal, QAL means Quilt Along and WIP means Work in Progress.)

American Patchwork & Quilting’s UFO Challenge. Participants create a list of 12 (or more) unfinished projects that we hoped to work on or complete this year. The first of the month a random number is announced and that is the project to work on.

My February UFO #7 – Actually there are four

The UFO number for February is #7. I have 3 projects on my list and will add finishing the Orphan Block Throw Quilt I assembled last month.

I have these stored in plastic and cardboard boxes and have pulled them out to have ready to work on when I have time.

UFO #7a – Make 1 (or 2) pillowcases to match the Project Linus Mystery Quilt Challenge from 2020. The pattern was called Lucy’s Love Notes. Read about my finishing this quilt on this Post. I usually make matching pillowcases to store the quilts I make. Time got away from me and I haven’t done this for Lucy. This should be a quickie as I have the fabric in the box. I just need to “Do It.”

UFO #7b – Add handles to my Dragonfly Tote. I don’t remember when I made this tote, but I know it was many years ago. I have the fabric, but just never got around to it. But a tote bag is kind of useless without handles. Like the pillowcases, this should be a quickie.

UFO #7c – Wishes, a Fat Quarter Shop Charity Quilt Along from 2019. I made major progress last year, and hopefully can this year. I decided to enlarge this to fit our queen bed. Read about the progress I made last year on this Post. January 2021, I made the final 3 blooks, added a plain border, and a pieced border. I also worked on piecing some on the backing.

Wishes – FQS 2019 QAL – UFO Progress 2021

It needs 2 more borders (I think), and then the backing needs to be pieced. Since this has been picked early this year, I’m hoping to get it done and to my Longarm quilter. This would be a big finish for me!

In addition to my listed 3 projects, I hope to finish the quilt I started last month using four orphan blocks. See it in this Post. I have batting and backing fabric. I’ll need to sandwich it and make a label. I plan to just do some plain straight-line quilting to make it a finish.

My February OMG – North to Alaska/Block #2

For my 2022 One Monthly Goal I am working on “Holiday” version of the North to Alaska pattern by Edyta of Laundry Basket Quilts. I’m late to the Quilt Along as The Featherweight Shop did Block #9 in January. If time permits, I may do more than one block each month to try to catch up.

My February Goals – WIP

I have so many things partially done, Here’s a list of a few of them to help me keep on track. Most have rolled over from the Fall and even earlier.

  • In Progress – Hand Piece Quilt Along 2021 – Need to find fabric for 2nd border
  • In Progress – Snowmen & Silent Night – Make additional blocks to enlarge
  • In Progress – All the Trimmings – Add a row of Presents, & Borders
  • In Progress – Project Linus 2021/Oliver is in the Doghouse – Additional Blocks, Assemble Rows, Sashing & Borders
  • In Progress – Autumn Jubilee 2021 – Add pieced border and maybe one more solid
  • Make tops for Fabric Cafe, if needed.
  • Backings or Bindings, as needed (either to cut/piece or buy)

So, this is what I want to do during February of 2022. It’s a short month, but many projects are small. Fingers crossed a lot will get done.

Hope you are getting some stitching done and are staying dry and warm. Spring is on it’s way!

Happy Stitching
