2021 UFOs & OMG for July

Where has the year gone? It’s hard to believe that it is July already. Working on my 5 Current Projects, I haven’t kept up the both APQ’s UFO Challenge and Elm Street Quilt’s OMG. Maybe I can get back to these projects.

(OK, for those not in the quilting world – UFO stands for UnFinished Object, and OMG means One Monthly Goal.)

UFOs & OMGs

American Patchwork & Quilting is sponsoring their UFO Challenge again this year. #apqresolution. This is just a simple project to help crafters – those who quilt/knit/crochet – create a list of 12 (or more) unfinished projects that you will try to work on or complete this year. It is entirely up to you what you want to add to the list. The first of the month a random number is announced and that is the project to work on.

I have one large & one small project listed for each number, plus a handful of other projects that I may work on or substitute. For July the number is 12 – to assemble the 12″ & 6″ blocks I have made into a flimsy (blocks pieced into a top) which were part of a Mystery Quilt Along sponsored by Fabric Quilt Shop – Threadology 2019 Fat Qtuarter Shop Charity QAL (Quilt Along).

Instead of a Design Wall, I used a sheet. I took the blocks with me to our weekly stitching meeting (a small group of hand stitching friends). We laid the sheet out and then, using the layout design sheet, we played “solitaire” and pinned my blocks in place. Matching up scraps sometimes frustrates me, so I needed help with this layout. This has been rolled up on a Pool Noodle for about 2 years waiting to be finished. Now to piece the blocks together. Later I’ll look at fabrics for the borders.

Elm Street Quilts Blog is again hosting the One Monthly Goal Challenge. This challenge is another one to help me make progress on the projects in my Sewing Room. No need to make a list, but on the first of the month there is a link-up to share what you hope to accomplish this month. It can be as simple as adding binding to a quilt or as busy as making an entire quilt.

I’m going to count my UFO as my OMG. Although I know I will not finish the borders on the Threadology QAL, my Goal this month is to get all the blocks stitched together.

July OMG

I will also try to finish piecing the 84 blocks for the Scrap Dance Pachanga Mystery Quilt Along. Our daughter is helping me choosing the scrappy units to piece together. I then take the blocks to my sewing room to piece them together. We’re almost halfway through.

Do you have any tips/tricks that help you keep motivated and moving ahead on your projects? I would love to hear what you do.

Happy Stitching

  1. Great projects in progress. Like you, I usually have a few things going at once so when I tire of one project, I can move to another for a while.
