Progress on my 5 Current Projects was interrupted a bit in March with this box of 3-yard Bundles from Fabric Cafe. I make some of the Sample Tops for Fabric Cafe. These are usually displayed at their Booth at Quilt Shows. Since last March, in-person Quilt Shows have been on hold. As a substitute and to share the fabric and quilt patterns, Donna has been making YouTube Videos. These are currently being shown at 4 pm CDT every Tuesday & Thursday on their Facebook Page. You can also go back and see earlier videos on their YouTube Channel.
Halloween fabric was the first bundle that I worked on – Orange with black bats, white with black cats and black with spider webs.
This pattern is not new, but is a fun top to make. All the blocks are the same – Half Square Triangles. I alternated sewing, cutting, trimming and ironing.
Here is the completed top – Kaleidoscope. You can get the pattern free when you buy a 3-yard Bundle or it can be purchased alone. A great use of three one-yard cuts of fabric. It is also available to purchase as a download PDF pattern.
The next 3-yard bundle was a bright selection of Black, Red and White with Red Poppies.
This pattern works up nice and quick since one block is just a square of the Poppy fabric, and the next block is created by first strip piecing the black & red fabric.
All assembled, the Stepping Stones pattern is cheery using these fabrics. This is also available as a printed pattern or downloadable PDF. Remember when buying a 3-yard Bundle, you get a pattern free.
The final bundle was Christmas Fabric – Red, Holly on White and White with multi-colored dots. It uses the same block created with two different colorways. The block is Half Rectangle Triangle which is a bit different than the Half Square Triangles used in the first top. The left side is made one way while the right side is made a bit different. It’s not hard, but I did take my time to make sure they were going the correct directions.
Fran shows how to create Half Rectangle Triangles on a YouTube video. Check it out here.
The Red Tree is set alternating with the Holly Tree.
It was late at night and I didn’t get a good picture outside since I wanted to send the tops back to Fabric Cafe in the morning. The pattern name is Christmas Forest and is available both as a printed pattern and a PDF download.
These fabrics are not available yet, but check back and they should be appearing soon. Have you noticed a number of fabric manufacturers are a bit slow shipping their new lines? With these 3 top, I have completed 125 Sample Tops for Fabric Cafe since 2011.
I’m busy this week. I’ll be working on some of my 5 Current Projects, plus some more bundles are on their way from Fabric Cafe for Sample Tops. I am officially 2 weeks post 2nd Vaccine shot (Moderna) and am hoping to start seeing a few family & friends soon. Hope you are making progress on your projects.
Happy Stitching,
Quilt Mouse
Cute quilts. My little guild is currently making half rectangle blocks. We had a demo of how to make them at our last guild meeting.
